Auto Injury Can Result in Weakened Ligaments

Auto Injury Can Result in Weakened Ligaments

Rear-end auto collisions can result in permanent disability and pain. As the violent motions of a crash strain the ligaments of the neck, their ability to stabilize the spine is compromised, making you more susceptible to injury. These weakened ligaments can lead to persistant neck pain or lasting whiplash symptoms.

After an auto injury, it's important to seek medical attention to decrease your likelihood of suffering from chronic neck pain and whiplash. Call our office to start leading a healthier life today!.

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT BACK PAIN

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT BACK PAIN

Many patients with back pain wonder how to prevent their pain from worsening or recurring. A recent literature review revealed that exercise may be the most effective way to prevent pain.

The review included an analysis of 20 scientific studies that tested various interventions for preventing back pain including exercise, patient education, training in safe lifting methods, stress management, and more.

Exercise was the only intervention tested which consistently produced substantial relief. In one study, active patients had 127 fewer sick days than inactive patients. Most exercises focused on strengthening back and abdominal muscles.

Exercise is a critical component of chiropractic care. A combination of chiropractic adjustments and exercise significantly relieves back pain for many patients. Your chiropractor can you help develop a safe, effective exercise program to prevent and reduce pain.

DRUG-FREE SCIATICA TREATMENT

DRUG-FREE SCIATICA TREATMENT

Pain medication is frequently prescribed for patients with sciatica, but a new article from the prestigious British Medical Journal reveals that there may be little efficacy in this practice.

In the article, researchers reviewed 23 studies that compared placebo pills to various drugs typically prescribed for sciatica. In study after study, drugs were found to be no more effective than a placebo in relieving pain. Drugs also did not significantly help  radiating leg pain, one of the primary symptoms of sciatica. Though two drugs did reduce overall pain, it was unclear how effective they were in the long-term.

This led researchers to conclude that there is no clear evidence demonstrating the efficacy or tolerability of common pain medications prescribed for sciatica.

Chiropractic is a better approach to sciatica than drugs. A 2010 study found that chiropractic does not pose the same risks as surgery yet it is just as effective.

Call our office today for natural, effective treatment of sciatica.

Chiropractic Relieves Dizziness After Auto Injury

Chiropractic Relieves Dizziness After Auto Injury

Chiropractic care cured vertigo and dizziness for patients in a new case study.

Vertigo and dizziness are common after an auto accident, and can result from head injuries or a sudden, violent motion of the head that disturbs the vestibular system. Patients may also experience nausea, sleep disturbances, and balance problems among other symptoms.

In the study, eight patients with vertigo received chiropractic treatments aimed at restoring function of the vestibular system. All patients reported a reduction in the duration, frequency, and severity of symptoms, including less pain and disability.

Auto Injury May Cause Jaw Pain

Chiropractic Care For Tension Headaches

Tension-type headaches are the most common form of headaches experienced in the general population today. These headaches are characterized by pain and tightness around the hatband area of the head. Associated pain and stiffness in the neck region may also be present. Tension headaches are made worse by several things, most notably stress, anxiety and physical tension such as poor posture. A recently published study indicates chiropractic care that includes manipulative therapy (chiropractic adjustments) and/or manual therapy (stretching and massage related therapies) are both beneficial in reducing the pain as well as improving neck range of motion. These beneficial results were seen with just 4 treatments administered during a 4-week period. If you or someone you know if suffering from headaches, call your local chiropractor today to schedule a no obligation consultation.

Reduce Stroke With Fruits and Vegetables

Want to significantly reduce your risk for stroke? New research indicates eating fruits and vegetables can do so by almost one-third. To obtain their data, researchers evaluated twenty recent studies that included more than 760,000 participants and approximately 17,000 strokes. Those eating the most fruits and vegetables were 21 percent less likely to experience a stroke. For every 200 grams of fruit consumed daily, stroke risk was reduced 32 percent and 11 percent with every 200 grams of vegetables consumed. So what fruits and vegetables seemed to have the most beneficial effects? According to researchers, citrus fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, lemons and limes as well as apples, pears and leafy vegetables were most linked to reduced stroke risk. With strokes listed as the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S., adding or increasing consumption of these fruits and vegetables is a no-brainer.

Second-Hand Smoke Damages Kids' Arteries

New research has found that children exposed to second-hand smoke experience aging of their arteries by 3.3 years by the time they reach adulthood. The passive smoke causes irreversible damage to their arteries and as a result, significantly increases their risk of cardiovascular disease (heart attack and stroke) later in life. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in addition to the 6 million people who die each year from their own smoking, another 600,000 die as a result of second-hand smoke. Moreover, approximately 40 percent of children are regularly exposed to second-hand smoke at home. If you’re a smoker and have yet to kick the habit, especially if you’re a parent, it's time.
