Auto Injury Can Result in Weakened Ligaments

Auto Injury Can Result in Weakened Ligaments

Rear-end auto collisions can result in permanent disability and pain. As the violent motions of a crash strain the ligaments of the neck, their ability to stabilize the spine is compromised, making you more susceptible to injury. These weakened ligaments can lead to persistant neck pain or lasting whiplash symptoms.

After an auto injury, it's important to seek medical attention to decrease your likelihood of suffering from chronic neck pain and whiplash. Call our office to start leading a healthier life today!.

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT BACK PAIN

THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT BACK PAIN

Many patients with back pain wonder how to prevent their pain from worsening or recurring. A recent literature review revealed that exercise may be the most effective way to prevent pain.

The review included an analysis of 20 scientific studies that tested various interventions for preventing back pain including exercise, patient education, training in safe lifting methods, stress management, and more.

Exercise was the only intervention tested which consistently produced substantial relief. In one study, active patients had 127 fewer sick days than inactive patients. Most exercises focused on strengthening back and abdominal muscles.

Exercise is a critical component of chiropractic care. A combination of chiropractic adjustments and exercise significantly relieves back pain for many patients. Your chiropractor can you help develop a safe, effective exercise program to prevent and reduce pain.

NATURAL TREATMENT FOR MIGRAINES DURING PREGNANCY

NATURAL TREATMENT FOR MIGRAINES DURING PREGNANCY

A recent case study suggests that chiropractic care can significantly soothe migraines in pregnant women.

In the report, a woman had suffered from migraines with aura since she was a child. Her symptoms worsened with pregnancy and she began having daily migraine attacks. After trying various conventional and alternative therapies with no success, the woman decided to see a chiropractor and agreed to participate in the study.

The patient was treated with a combination of chiropractic adjustments, massage, trigger point therapy, and lifestyle changes. In just one week of treatment, her migraine attacks became significantly less severe and frequent, and her reliance on pain medication
decreased dramatically.

Women with migraines often find their headaches improve during pregnancy due to hormonal changes. But in 30-40% of women, migraines intensify with pregnancy.

Many women worry about  the risks associated with use of pain medication during pregnancy. This case report suggests that chiropractic combined with other natural therapies can provide safe, effective treatment for migraines, without the adverse effects of drugs.

DRUG-FREE SCIATICA TREATMENT

DRUG-FREE SCIATICA TREATMENT

Pain medication is frequently prescribed for patients with sciatica, but a new article from the prestigious British Medical Journal reveals that there may be little efficacy in this practice.

In the article, researchers reviewed 23 studies that compared placebo pills to various drugs typically prescribed for sciatica. In study after study, drugs were found to be no more effective than a placebo in relieving pain. Drugs also did not significantly help  radiating leg pain, one of the primary symptoms of sciatica. Though two drugs did reduce overall pain, it was unclear how effective they were in the long-term.

This led researchers to conclude that there is no clear evidence demonstrating the efficacy or tolerability of common pain medications prescribed for sciatica.

Chiropractic is a better approach to sciatica than drugs. A 2010 study found that chiropractic does not pose the same risks as surgery yet it is just as effective.

Call our office today for natural, effective treatment of sciatica.

Chiropractic Relieves Dizziness After Auto Injury

Chiropractic Relieves Dizziness After Auto Injury

Chiropractic care cured vertigo and dizziness for patients in a new case study.

Vertigo and dizziness are common after an auto accident, and can result from head injuries or a sudden, violent motion of the head that disturbs the vestibular system. Patients may also experience nausea, sleep disturbances, and balance problems among other symptoms.

In the study, eight patients with vertigo received chiropractic treatments aimed at restoring function of the vestibular system. All patients reported a reduction in the duration, frequency, and severity of symptoms, including less pain and disability.

Auto Injury May Cause Jaw Pain

Auto Injury May Cause Jaw Pain

Jaw or temporomandibular joint pain is common after an auto injury, even when there is no direct trauma to the jaw. The condition can be confusing to health-care providers, since oftentimes the jaw symptoms don't appear immediately after the injury, sometimes developing weeks or even months later.

Find out how chiropractic can help jaw pain after auto injury here.

Leg Pain Relief From Chiropractic Care

New research indicates chiropractic care coupled with exercise and pain management techniques is more successful at easing back-related leg pain than simply exercise and pain management techniques alone. Researchers at the University of Minnesota recruited 192 patients suffering from back pain with pain radiating into the legs - commonly referred to as sciatica. Patients received either therapeutic exercises and basic pain management advice, or, therapeutic exercises and basic pain management advice along with 12 weeks of chiropractic spinal manipulation. After 12 weeks, twice as many of the patients receiving the added chiropractic spinal manipulation experienced a 75 percent or greater reduction in leg pain as compared with those who did not receive chiropractic spinal manipulation; 37 percent as compared with 19 percent. After one year, patients who received the added chiropractic spinal manipulation still had higher scores for overall improvement and satisfaction.

Back Surgery Even More Risky In The Obese

Surgery always comes with the risk of serious complications, even including death. Findings from a recent study indicate obese patients who undergo lumbar fusion have an even greater risk of blood loss, longer hospital stay, higher risk of complication and worse functional outcome than do non-obese patients. According to researchers of the study, "These findings suggest that both surgeons and patients should acknowledge the significantly increased morbidity profile of obese patients after lumbar fusion." Whether you're obese or not, chiropractic care offers a safe, natural, non-invasive treatment approach for dealing with back, neck and spinal related pain and discomfort. Chiropractic care not only focuses on providing relief, but it does so by dealing with the cause of the pain and discomfort rather than just masking the symptoms. If you're in pain or discomfort and/or are considering back surgery, call your local doctor of chiropractic today and setup a no-obligation consultation. And remember, back pain can often be reversed - back surgery, cannot.

ACA Statement on NIH Expert Panel Final Report on Use of Opioids in Chronic Pain

Arlington, Va. -  American Chiropractic Association (ACA) President Anthony Hamm, DC, issued the following comment today on a new report released by an independent National Institutes of Health (NIH) panel about the need for individualized, patient-centered care to treat and monitor the estimated 100 million Americans living with chronic pain. "ACA commends NIH for recognizing the value of an individual, patient-centered and multi-faceted approach to managing chronic pain. It is also interesting to read the conclusion from the panel that widespread opioid use does not provide an effective single approach for the chronic pain patient. Services provided by chiropractic physicians, including those being delivered in integrated community health centers, have proven effective with respect to patient satisfaction. ACA encourages NIH to study all complementary and integrated approaches to chronic pain management, including chiropractic. These integrated approaches can offer a higher degree of patient safety and reduce the use of medications."
